It's a Dump

Well, suffice it to say that the pumpkin cheesecake was a non-success. And I really don't care to revisit the details this soon after the incident, so we'll leave it at that.

On a more positive note . . .I tried the dump cake recipe that was featured in last month's Real Simple, in an article by Adriana Trigiani. Her recipe is actually for what she calls Dolly Parton Dump Cake because she perfected it at a time that she was a writer on a Dolly Parton television project. My version came out less as what I would call a cake, and more like a saucy pudding, but it was quite tasty, and with some adjusting could be even better. The ingredients are super simple: 1 box of yellow cake mix, 1 can of crushed pineapple, 1 can of cherry pie filling, 1 can of blueberry pie filling and 1 stick of butter. I substituted a can of apple filling for the cherry, and I think my cans of pie filling must have been larger than the authors. I think the pineapple and 1 can of filling probably would have been perfect. The last photo before the piece went into the oven looks like I spread shredded cheese over the whole thing, but actually that is the frozen butter, made "sprinkle-able" with the help of a cheese grater. We're going to have more of this tonight, warmed up and served with ice cream. Mmmmm. . .
